I'm feeling very optimistic, because I've made a lot of progress with the background today.
Anyway, here's another preview, this time a full-body one (because I couldn't seem to take a screenie of what I wanted to elaborate on today without it looking awkward):
Velvet on her own was rather easy to paint. Her colors were simple enough and I had recently learned how to smudge right to achieve better detail. I thought of making the Book of Boreas look more frosty-looking, but then I thought, eh, it's not like it looked that detailed in-game and in the artbook anyway.
Then came my first problem… The ice. I didn't know how to paint ice and I was apprehensive about working on it because of that. Thankfully I stumbled upon a tutorial on Pinterest that was very cruicial in helping me do exactly that.
So the ice was eventually done. My next problem though? Velvet's eyeglasses. I had never painted transparent glass before and I always thought it was a matter of lowering opacity for each layer you work on. For my project though… Apparently it's just not the case.
But then Pinterest came to my rescue, again. I didn't stumble on any glass painting tutorials, but I did find this one about painting realistic raindrops instead.
