Crocigator Sketches 2

Slowly trying to get through these missed days of OC-tober... 😅

I was planning on making another custom hoodie with my gator OCs featured on them. I'm thinking about making it Crocigator-centric; the idea is I'd have my last sketch of him on the front, then these little expressions of him on the sleeves, and then a final design on the back of the hoodie. Not sure what that final design is meant to be yet, though. I may opt for something simpler on the front of the hoodie, and then put the big Crocigator sketch on the back instead.

Crocigator Sketches 1

"Where the fish at?"

---

Definitely been ages since I last made anything related to Gator Buddies.

I don't know why but for the longest time, I struggled to match Crocigator's head shape to that of his initial concept art. I guess it's because I never really made a proper, individual character reference sheet for him and the other characters... But something about the shape of his head in my comics almost always felt kind of wrong and I could never really put my finger as to what. Even this piece that was meant to be his official art didn't feel right to me.

After taking a look at my art again, I made another attempt, though this time I was more mindful about the simple shapes on his head. Then I came up with this, and frankly I much prefer the look of his head like this compared to before. I suppose I just really needed a better distinction of the gap between his head and the rest of his body... Since in the past he just really looked like a thumb or something. 😅😂

Winter Gators

Man, it's been a while since I worked on anything with my gator OCs and their friends, hasn't it?

I wanted to take a break for a time from the intense paintings I've been working on lately. With the weather over here in Canada being as chilly as it is, I figured now was also the perfect time to get myself a new sweater... Heck, even a new mug.

So I whipped up a bunch of doodles about my gator OCs, brainstormed about winter-related things. I was thinking, "What would be other winter-related things one would typically expect in the Swamplands?" Snow isn't a thing in the marshes unless you went to somewhere of high elevation... Then I settled for some winter crops and vegetation. And I didn't even know until recently that chestnuts grew around Florida in the US; seeing as the Swamplands are based on the swamps of southeastern North America, it was a neat little thing to know. Who'd have thought, eh?

Flight of the Stubby (Part 1)

Oh, it's been a good long while since we had a gator comic! It's about time we had a new arc anyway. 😉

You thought the previous strip was the last for this arc, but it was actually this one! 😈

This officially wraps up the Gatorville arc! Now I move onto a newer, less depressing one... As soon as I work on some commissions in my backlog to just give myself a much-needed breather.

Once again, thank you all for sticking around for my comics! Please look forward to the next arc, coming soon!

WE'RE HEEEEERE! YES I AM AWARE I'VE DELAYED BY 10 DAYS DON'T @ ME 😡😡😡

Holy crap this was super long 😱 I wanted to split this into two but I already promised I would end this arc with this one last strip. So I kept everything as it is and here we are! 😄 LMAO disregard that we got a part 17 out to properly wrap up the entire arc, which you can view below.

I also had trouble storyboarding this in such a way that I'd be able to properly convey everything I wanted. I was also unsure if I wanted to revert to the old style of writing silent comics or just add words anyway. In the end, I chose to add words and dialogue since it works just as well.

Thank you guys for sticking around this long!

HMMMMMM I'VE BEEN THINKING OF THIS STRIP SINCE I STARTED THIS ARC AND NOW IT'S FINISHED! Would you believe that it's almost been ONE WHOLE YEAR HOLY SHIT WHERE'D ALL THAT TIME GO AMIRITE 🤩

Now it's just... One more strip left... For this arc...

I also notice my comics are becoming longer than usual... Don't expect this to be a new trend, guys. 😰 Too many long strips will wear me out. 😅

Long Ago in Gatorville (Part 14)

GOOD LORD, this update was beefier than usual. Thanks for waiting on this, guys! I've been so eager to get this out of the way so I could show everyone the other towns in the Swamplands 💕

I was honestly very daunted about painting in the water wheel... Looking at it now, though--dang, this thing looks satisfying as heck. The draft version was more detailed but I think this simpler one works better to maintain the aesthetic.

TWO COMICS IN THIS ARC LEFT 😭 PUSH PUSH PUUUUUUUSH 😤😤😤

Super Special Fish Dish

I made my girlfriend a Valentine's card on stream. 💕 I'm trying to get used to making stuff to commemorate various holidays, because I'm almost always so lazy and uninterested in making them. I hope to try and change that this year. 😅

It was supposed to have a pink background but I didn't like it, so I changed it to something green instead. Now it looks more pleasing to my senses. 🥰

Happy Valentine's Day all. 💕 Hope you guys have a lovely day, be it with your significant other or even just by yourself. And even if you are just by yourself, think of it this way: you can't learn to love others if you don't start loving yourself first, so just take this opportunity to love yourself by just treating yourself right. 😌

Long Ago in Gatorville (Part 13)

We are nearing the end of the arc guys 😩 Just 3 comics left! I will try to make it so that the arc is done before March (or at least, before the end of March 😅)!

New strip! More perspectives! More objects! 🧰 More PLANTS! 🌿

The Skillshare class I took in perspective is paying off and I love it! And uuuuuuugh that lattice is just sooooo good with all the plants and the leaves and the detail. I am so proud of it. 💕

Let's see how long it'll take me before the next strip drops, though I'll try to post the next one within a fortnight. 😅

Fall Fish Treats

Ah, finally. A proper autumn-themed piece! 🍂 Candy isn't a thing in the Swamplands, but fish sure is. Our gators like going door-to-door this time of year asking for fish to commemorate the season. 🐟

I don't celebrate Halloween myself, honestly. Here in the Philippines, most people and I celebrate All Saints' and All Souls' Days and associate this time of year to going to cemeteries to visit the graves of our relatives. Halloween is often left to upper-class/elite neighborhoods with families who speak more English and have kids who struggle to speak their native tongue. 😏 Nevertheless, happy Halloween, folks. Even if I don't celebrate it myself. 😉

Their outfits are based from this old Inktober post.

Nightlight (2021)

A friend of Crocigator's ever since he could remember. Leader to a swarm of fellow fireflies, she and her companions keep a close watch on the young Stubby while the young gator is out on his adventures. Should Stubby be ever in any danger, the fireflies work as a team to inform Crocigator right away, who is never too far from him. In return, Crocigator allows the fireflies to live in the safety and comfort of his shack.

While an observer might find it odd that Nightlight and her fellow fireflies go out of their way to do this for the gators, it is said that both Nightlight and Crocigator shared a certain history with one another, leading them to be in each other's debt. This agreement between the gator and the fireflies is supposedly their own way of repaying one another.

---

Crap. I'm behind by 3 days again. 😑

On the bright side, I present to you Nightlight's new character design! 🎉

I spent a fair deal of time overhauling her previous design into one that was more feminine and more original (thus the delay in Digitober posting). Up until this point she felt like a lookalike of a mascot from a local fast food joint. I also had trouble with what colors to use until I settled for these earthy tones. She looks much more like a proper firefly now, especially with all this color. 🎨

That does it for the Gator Buddies cast for now. 😄 This was a lot of fun! And a welcome relief from all the lineless painting I've been doing too. Now to rack my head for ideas on what to make next...

Todd (2021)

Ahhh, Todd. Such a precious beaver boye. 🥰

That's it for the beavers! Now it's Nightlight's turn for the next one. 😄

Trey (2021)

It's ya boi Trey and he's ready to show you his mad rapping skillz. 😎 ...Which he learned from all his time watching human rappers on TV. 📺

Now all that's left is the youngest of the brothers. 😄

Twig (2021)

...Well, this came out earlier than it was supposed to.

As soon as I finished the piece with Pointy, I started on this. I planned to just do a little bit of it so I could jump right into it again and post when I got home from work. But I got too carried away and went straight to finishing it. 😅

On the bright side, I've been behind this challenge by 3 days, and now I've effectively reduced that to 2 days instead. I'm catching up, guys! ...I hope. 😆

Pointy (2021)

Gatorville's resident Derp Snail, now featured standalone from the others. 🐌

Now that the main cast for my comic is out there, I think I should feature secondary characters from my comic in the upcoming days too. 😊

Pudgy (2021)

Today, we have the friendly neighborhood gator, Pudgy. 😀

He wasn't originally supposed to be wearing a straw hat, but the design of him wearing one just stuck. I actually like it because it adds to his character. 😊
